New Horizons: Lynas’ Rare Earths Processing Facility in Kalgoorlie

Excitement builds as Lynas charts new horizons with the construction of a Rare Earths Processing Facility in Kalgoorlie. This facility will process rare earth concentrate from the Mt Weld mine, marking a foundation project for Lynas’ ambitious 2025 growth vision. The material produced in Kalgoorlie will undergo further processing at Lynas’ advanced materials plant in Gebeng, Malaysia, or at the proposed Rare Earths separation facility in the United States.

Geotech Australia’s Strategic Involvement: Earthworks Mastery at Mt Weld

In June 2023, Geotech Australia joined forces with Centrals Earthmoving to play a pivotal role in the Mt Weld mine expansion. The earthworks package, encompassing 250,000m³ of bulk earthworks, is designed to accommodate the planned process plant expansion and additional infrastructure. This involves the realignment and reconstruction of existing roads to facilitate the expansion. Our scope includes earthworks, drainage, pavements, and street furniture.

Precision Testing for Success: Material Compliance and Earthworks Assurance

Geotech Australia, committed to precision testing, has been actively engaged in ensuring material compliance for the Mt Weld mine expansion. Our role involves processing bulk samples from various sources, conducting Particle Size Distribution tests, as well as Liquid & Plasticity Limits and Linear Shrink tests. These samples are meticulously processed at our Bunbury Base Facility.

Onsite Mastery: Assuring Compliant Material and Placement Practises

With an onsite team dedicated to excellence, Geotech Australia collaborates closely with Centrals Earthmoving to ensure compliant material and placement practises. Our involvement spans compaction control testing utilising Field Nuclear Density AS1289.5.8.1 and Modified Compaction AS1289.5.2.1 methodologies, vital for the success of the expansive earthworks.
